Granted annually to a graduating student in the Faculty of Science Foods and Nutrition or Family Science program who is normally resident in Prince Edward Island and has demonstrated potential to make a significant contribution to the ideals of home, family life, and society.
Background:
Established in 1997, this award is in memory of Sister Ellen Mary, who at age 33 became the first Island born General Superior of the Sisters of St. Martha in 1921 and served in this capacity for twelve years and later for another twelve years. She received her B.Sc in Home Economics from St. Francis Xavier University, worked as a dietician and teacher at Charlottetown Hospital, Prince of Wales College, Kinkora High School and at SDU. She held Life memberships in PEI Home Economics and Dietetics Associations and received a Doctorate in Laws from St. Dunstan's University. She died in 1994.
