Criteria:
Granted annually to a student who has completed their second year of study in the Faculty of Arts Music program. The successful recipient will show promise as a musician and demonstrate the ability to share the gift of music in the community while maintaining a satisfactory academic record.
Background:
Sr. Mary Winnifred grew up in Kinkora with her musical gifts shared and promoted from her childhood. She received certification in piano, singing and music theory from various institutions. She taught music in Island schools for thirty-five years as well as in summer schools in Atlantic universities, established choirs in schools and in parishes where she lived. She was the first Sister Pastoral worker in the Charlottetown diocese serving in Palmer Road parish. She contributed a spiritual dimension to AA and Al-anon groups through offering retreats on the 12 steps. She received Honorary Membership in the Music Festival Association. Her legacy of her love of music lives on in her Martha Sisters
