Awarded to students entering the Gateway Program at UPEI (formerly known as the Transitions Program). Awards are based on financial need and are renewable for the same recipient upon their entrance into bachelor-level studies at UPEI the following academic year. Applications must demonstrate your study path and future career interests in the personal statement.

Background:
In 2005 Francis (Fran) Lefaivre established bursaries to support worthy applicants entering the Transition Program at UPEI. The bursaries were created in memory of Fran's mother, Eugenie Ann Pineau, who graduated in 1909 from Prince of Wales College, one of UPEI's predecessor institutions. Miss Pineau successfully pursued her education under very difficult financial circumstances. Immediately after graduating, she migrated to Alberta where she became a life-long educator along with raising a family of five children. Mr. Francis (Fran) Lefaivre passed away in 2007. In his memory, Fran's wife, Marjorie, made a generous donation to the endowment fund, allowing increased and renewable awards.
