Criteria:
Awarded to a student graduating from Colonel Gray who is entering the Bachelor of Science program, with preference given to a Math or Chemistry major, is involved in the community, has an admission average between 75% and 85%, and is not already receiving a scholarship of $1,000 or more.
Background:
Mr. Earl Foster is a man who appreciates the importance of a solid education. Following on from attending Prince of Wales College in Prince Edward Island, Mr. Foster pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and chemistry, and a Bachelor of Education at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. In 1975, he graduated with a Masters in Education, majoring in mathematics, from the University of Maine in Orono. Over a span of 35 years, Mr. Foster served as a teacher at O'Leary Regional High School, and then as a teacher and later a Vice-Principal at Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown until his retirement in June 2005. Mr. Foster is active in the community having served in numerous capacities with Y's Men International. He is a strong supporter of the Christian church, is a golfer, a traveler, an avid philatelist (stamp collector), and continues to tutor students in mathematics. In the spirit of promoting education, Earl Foster funds this entrance scholarship, through an annual donation, for a Colonel Gray High School student entering the University of Prince Edward Island's Bachelor of Science program.
