Criteria:
Awarded to a student entering the Executive Masters of Business Administration program at UPEI with the following selection criteria: successful candidate must be a resident of PEI, have a record of good academic standing and display financial need. Preference will be given to applicants that have made contributions to their communities or have exercised sustainable business practices. Candidates receiving employer support and/or other graduate student awards that, combined, exceed 50% of the program's tuition and fees are not eligible for this scholarship.
Background:
A native Islander, Dr. James (Jim) Carter (UPEI Honorary Degree recipient, 2008) is known as a visionary business and community Leader. He attended Prince of Wales College and UPEI. Having worked for Syncrude Canada Ltd. for 28 years, his work has contributed to improvements in environmental performance, workplace safety and strengthening relations with aboriginals. His wife, Dr. Lorraine Bray, is a Psychologist. Together, they have six adult children and reside in Alberta. With a deep affection for Prince Edward Island, and respect for the importance of supporting students as they strive for excellence, Drs. Carter and Bray made substantial gifts to create this endowed fund that will provide for this scholarship in perpetuity.
