Criteria:
Granted to a student graduating from UPEI with a BA major or minor in Diversity and Social Justice Studies who has demonstrated dedication to challenging global inequities and/or promoting positive social change.
Background:
Donalda MacDonald spent over a quarter century as an active member of CUPE 1770, as President of CUPE PEI, and as Regional Vice-President of CUPE National before becoming General Vice-President in 2007. While Donalda was renowned for her efforts on behalf of CUPE members in PEI and across Canada, she is remembered for her tireless efforts on behalf of all individuals, spreading her strength and resources to the make the world a better place. Donalda passed away January 20, 2008. In her memory, CUPE Local 1870 established the Donalda MacDonald CUPE Award through an annual contribution. In December 2015, CUPE (including both the national and local branch) generously decided to build an endowment to support this award in perpetuity.
