Background:
The family of Leonard and Genevieve (Carragher) Keefe have made a mark on the University of Prince Edward Island and the broader community. Leonard and Genevieve raised nine children - Leonard, Colleen, Brian, Marion, Terry, Ron, Blair, Janice, and Greg, all of whom attended UPEI and have gone on to make an impact in their communities as leaders in their professions. Colleen married Leonard Malone (UPEI '72) and they raised two children together - Leslie and Jason (BA '10). In 2011, the Keefe and Malone families were deeply saddened to lose Colleen to illness at the age of 61. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and sister-in-law. Colleen was the first female to graduate with a BBA from UPEI in 1971. She went on to a noteworthy career in human resources and served as a Director for the PEI Civil Service Commission for many years. In honour of her life and the impact Colleen had on so many, the Keefe family with Leonard Malone, made a leadership gift commitment to the University of Prince Edward Island in her memory. The Colleen Keefe Malone Memorial Scholarship endowment fund is part of this leadership gift.
