Background:
There was no greater success story in Island sport than the AUS championship won by the UPEI women's hockey Panthers in 2012, and much of the credit belonged to head coach Bruce Donaldson. It was a fitting reward for a dedicated volunteer, who has coached hockey for almost 30 years at all levels from atom and peewee through to the 2007 Canada Games team. The Charlottetown resident transformed a struggling program to one which has become a real force in women's varsity hockey. Bruce has been part of Hockey P.E.I.'s Program of Excellence for many years, has been front and centre of the Hockey Momma's tournament which raises funds for breast cancer, and has chaired the ever-popular Spud Tournament in Charlottetown, one of the largest of its kind in eastern Canada. Bruce had a long career in the banking management industry prior to being engaged by UPEI in 2014 in the additional and important role of Associate Director of Development. He continues to be a critical part of Panther Athletics as well as developing relationships with major supporters of the university. His wife, Carmel, has played a key role in support of Bruce's passion and initiatives for the game of hockey.
