Criteria:
Granted to a student entering the four year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program at UPEI who completed their secondary education at a PEI high school. If there are two equally qualifying candidates, academic achievement in their last year of high school will be considered.
Background:
Ethel (Mickey) Brennan graduated from Notre Dame Academy and from Prince of Wales College, Commercial Course, in 1957. She then attended the Charlottetown Hospital School of Nursing and obtained her RN designation in 1960. Her nursing career was spent in Charlottetown and mainly focused in the fields of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as the hospital nurseries. She was the proud recipient of the Dr. J.H. O'Hanley Award of Excellence for her work caring for Island children. She had the opportunity to work with Dr. J.H. O'Hanley at the Charlottetown Clinic. She served as President of the Charlottetown Hospital Nurses Alumni and Charlottetown Hospital Auxilliary and spent many hours volunteering at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. She is an active member of the Holy Redeemer Church. Ethel's son David M Brennan CPA, CA (UPEI BBA '86) established this scholarship as a gift to his mother for one of her milestone birthdays.
