Criteria:
Awarded to a first-, second-, or third-year student in Veterinary Medicine with an interest in canine medicine and surgery. Preference will be given to a third-year student. Students involved in judging, showing or breeding dogs with the CKC will receive strong consideration.
Background:
Incorporated under the Animal Pedigree Act, The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) is the primary registry body for purebred dogs in Canada and currently recognizes 187 breeds. As a national, member-based, non-profit organization, CKC is dedicated to encouraging, guiding, and advancing the interests of purebred dogs and their responsible owners and breeders in Canada and promoting the knowledge and understanding of the benefits which dogs can bring to Canadian society. CKC members are trusted for their expertise and commitment to the health and well-being of dogs in Canada. The Club and its members share their love of dogs with integrity and commitment by adhering to CKC policies and procedures.,br/> As the prime registry of purebred dogs in Canada, the mission of the Canadian Kennel Club is to serve its members and the public with education, support, guidance and sanctioning of events for all their canine endeavours. The Club's goal is the preservation of purebred dogs and the health, well-being and enjoyment of all dogs. The Canadian Kennel Club has supported students at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) since 1990. In February 2023, the Club decided to formalize their support through this gift agreement that outlines their intent to establish an annually funded award.
